Entertaiment is a broad category of activities that provide pleasure and recreation. It includes many of the arts, including music, dance, theatre and film. It also involves the more mundane activities of everyday life, such as eating and playing games. Entertainment may be intended for a small group, such as a dinner party with entertainment provided by an individual singer; or on a large scale, such as performances intended for thousands of people. Increasingly, entertainments have a purpose other than amusement: stories such as Scheherazade, which are part of the professional storytelling tradition, can be found in music by composers such as Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel; films made by directors such as Pasolini; and innovative video games.
